The challenge of automated turning: precision and speed
The Efficiency of Integrated Automation In modern precision engineering, speed can never be separated from accuracy. For Italmec, this challenge is met through the integration of advanced automation systems that transform CNC turning processes into optimized and consistent production cycles. Thanks to the use of the "Gantry" robotic system installed on our DAEWOO Puma 240 M GL lathe, we are able to manage workpiece changeovers automatically, eliminating downtime and ensuring perfect repeatability even on large batches. This technology allows us to maintain extremely high quality standards, minimizing human error and offering our customers reliable and competitive delivery times.
Continuous Production and Versatility A workshop's operational capacity is also measured by its production autonomy. For this reason, we have equipped our units, such as the ACRA MT-52L, with bar loading systems that reach up to 3,000 mm in length. This configuration allows the machine to be powered for extended periods, supporting machining with bar passages up to 65 mm and turning diameters up to 315 mm. Automation is not just about quantity, but also the ability to handle complex geometries in short times, ensuring that each component meets the strictest technical specifications provided by our industrial partners.
From bar stock to finished part: a controlled process It's not just about chip removal, but about complete order management, starting with material cutting. Using automatic saws to prepare the blanks and leveraging the power of our 14 CNC machines, we manage the entire workflow in-house. Each stage of automated turning is constantly monitored to prevent dimensional deviations, especially when working with complex materials such as special steels or non-ferrous alloys. This integrated approach allows us to rapidly transition from prototyping to series production, maintaining the operational flexibility that has become Italmec's hallmark since 1994.
The Crucial Role of the Metrology Room Production automation requires an equally technologically advanced counterweight in quality control. Each batch produced by our automated lathes passes through our climate-controlled metrology room, where automatic 3D measuring machines and CNC optical systems verify that production speed has not compromised precision. The use of profile projectors and digital roughness testers allows us to certify each piece according to ISO 9001 standards, offering customers the assurance that every component, from the first to the last in the series, perfectly complies with the technical drawing.
